Ljubljana has a well-developed public transport system operated by LPP (Ljubljanski potniški promet). Students are eligible for subsidised public transport and can use the Urbana card for city buses.

As Ljubljana is relatively compact, walking and cycling are also very convenient. The city has a public bicycle-sharing system called Bicikelj, with stations located throughout Ljubljana. An annual subscription costs only €3, and the first hour of each ride is free.

Incoming students can stay in student dormitories or private accommodation.

A limited number of places in student dormitories are available for exchange students and are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Private rooms and apartments are another common option.

Finding accommodation in Ljubljana can be challenging, particularly before the beginning of the academic year, so we recommend starting your search as early as possible.

Please note that clinical and practical training does not take place only at the Faculty of Health Sciences.

Depending on the study programme and placement, students may complete their practical training at different hospitals, clinics, healthcare institutions and other partner organisations in Ljubljana and its surroundings.

When choosing accommodation, we therefore recommend considering not only the location of the Faculty of Health Sciences but also the possibility of travelling to different placement locations.

Information about the exact placement location is provided according to the study programme and organisational arrangements.

Students in Slovenia can use the subsidised student meal system (študentski boni). Exchange students are also eligible to use this system.

Subsidised meals are available in many restaurants in Ljubljana and in other cities across Slovenia. Students need to register for the system after arrival.

Incoming students can receive support from student tutors, who help international and exchange students settle into their new academic and social environment.

Tutors can assist with orientation at the faculty, practical questions, administrative procedures and everyday student life in Ljubljana.

The Erasmus Student Network (ESN) Ljubljana organises activities for international students throughout the academic year, including Welcome Week activities, social events, city tours, trips and opportunities to meet other local and international students.

ESN Ljubljana also runs a Buddy Programme, connecting incoming students with local students who can help them settle into life in Ljubljana.

Students can access healthcare services at the Student Health Centre of the University of Ljubljana (Zdravstveni dom za študente).

The Student Health Centre provides several healthcare services, including general and family medicine, gynaecology, dentistry and laboratory services.

International students should make sure that they have appropriate health insurance valid in Slovenia before arrival.

Ljubljana is located in the centre of Slovenia, which makes it a convenient starting point for exploring the country.

Slovenia offers mountains, lakes, forests, caves and the Adriatic coast, and many destinations can be reached from Ljubljana as a day trip. International student organisations, including ESN Ljubljana, also organise excursions and activities during the semester.
